MNLUCS Launches 2nd National Antitrust Moot Court Competition 2026

The Maharashtra National Law University, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (MNLUCS), in collaboration with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and Phoenix Legal, has announced the commencement of registrations for the 2nd CCI-MNLUCS National Antitrust Moot Court Competition. This prestigious event, organized by the Moot Court Association (MCA) and the Centre for Competition Law and Policy (CCLP) at MNLUCS, is set to provide a dynamic platform for discussions and debates on complex antitrust issues.

Fostering Expertise in Antitrust Law

India’s competition law framework, though relatively recent, has quickly attained a pivotal role in shaping the business landscape and enhancing consumer welfare. The CCI’s role in adjudicating and advocating for fair competition principles has made significant impacts. The moot competition aims to advance legal scholarship by encouraging law students to engage in rigorous research, develop advocacy skills, and contribute to the academic discourse on antitrust law.

Competition Format and Timeline

The competition will adopt a hybrid format, with preliminary and quarter-final rounds conducted virtually on September 12 and 13, 2026, respectively. The semi-final and final rounds will take place in person at the MNLUCS campus on September 27, 2026. This format ensures accessibility while offering participants a taste of real-world courtroom proceedings.

The event is open to students enrolled in recognized undergraduate programs, specifically those pursuing LL.B. degrees. Each participating institution is allowed to register a maximum of two teams, with each team comprising two or three members, including two speakers and a researcher. Teams must submit their composition at registration, and any changes require prior approval from the organizing committee.

Memorial Evaluation and Communication

All teams will undergo a Memorial Evaluation Round, with 32 teams advancing to the Oral Submissions. A primary contact person must be designated in the registration form to facilitate official communication throughout the competition.

Prizes and Recognition

Winners will receive a trophy, a cash prize of ₹50,000, an internship with Phoenix Legal, and a one-year SCC Online subscription for each team member. The runner-up will be awarded a trophy, a ₹30,000 cash prize, and an internship opportunity. Additional awards include Best Speaker, Best Memorial (Informant), and Best Memorial (Opposite Party) with cash prizes of ₹10,000 each. All participants will receive a certificate of participation or merit based on performance.

Registration Details and Fees

The registration process involves two stages. An initial fee of ₹4,500 per team is required for the Memorial Evaluation and Virtual Rounds. Teams advancing to the offline stages must pay an additional ₹5,500, covering food and accommodation.
