In a significant development for legal education in India, Professor Jyoti Mozika has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University Meghalaya (NLU Meghalaya). With her extensive experience and academic credentials, Prof Mozika is set to assume her new role in August, following the vacancy created by the retirement of the founding Vice-Chancellor, Prof Indrajit Dube, earlier this year in February.
Prof Mozika currently serves as the Head of the Department of Law at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), where she has been an integral part of the academic community for over 27 years. Her appointment follows the interim leadership of Founding Registrar Kerpa Meida Lyngdoh Nongbri, who has been managing the duties of Vice-Chancellor since Prof Dube’s departure.
Prof Mozika’s academic journey is marked by excellence, having been a gold medalist in both her B.A. LL.B. and LL.M. programs. She further solidified her expertise with a PhD in Law from the University of North Bengal. Throughout her career, she has held numerous academic and administrative positions, contributing significantly to the development of legal education in various institutions across India.
In addition to her academic achievements, Prof Mozika is recognized for her leadership as she has completed four terms as the Head of the Department of Law at NEHU. Her leadership has been instrumental in steering the department to new heights, nurturing future legal minds.
Prof Mozika is married to Senior Advocate Nitesh Mozika, who serves as the Deputy Solicitor General of India for the Meghalaya High Court. This personal connection to the legal profession complements her professional journey, further enriching her perspective on legal education and practice.
