The prestigious Moot Court Society from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), in collaboration with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (SAM), is excited to host the third annual NLS-SAM FinTech Moot Court Competition. This noteworthy event will take place on November 28 and 29, 2026, and centers on the dynamic field of fintech law, where finance meets innovative technology.
Focus of This Year’s Competition
This year, the moot court problem tackles pressing legal, constitutional, and regulatory issues associated with artificial intelligence and machine learning in the financial services sector. Participants will engage with critical questions like the legality of banning AI-driven credit underwriting and KYC processes, the protection of fundamental rights for applicants marginalized by opaque algorithms, and the implications of copyright law on machine learning models trained with proprietary data. These topics reflect current debates among policymakers, regulators, and the judiciary at the crossroads of technology, financial inclusion, and intellectual property.
Eligibility Criteria
The competition welcomes students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate law programs, including LL.M. courses, from recognized institutions. Eligible participants must be in at least their second year of a B.A. LL.B. (or any integrated 5-year law degree) or a 3-year LL.B. program. Each institution is allowed to send one team, although universities with multiple colleges can field teams from each college or a single team representing various colleges.
Registration Details
Teams must complete provisional registration by August 18, 2026, followed by final registration by August 24, 2026. An initial non-refundable registration fee of ₹2,500 applies. Teams advancing to the offline oral rounds will incur an additional fee of ₹7,500, which covers accommodation, meals, and local travel between the venue and accommodation.
