SGT University Law School Hosts National Civil Drafting Competition 2026

The School of Law at SGT University is inviting law students nationwide to participate in the Ram Behari Gupta Memorial National Civil Drafting Competition 2026. This esteemed event focuses on the multidimensional nature of property disputes, both urban and rural, encouraging participants to engage in dynamic litigation strategies beyond conventional drafting exercises.

About the Competition

This competition offers a unique opportunity for participants to experience the complexities of modern civil court practices, as outlined in the Specific Relief Act, 1963, and the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908. It challenges participants to handle property transaction disputes, assess claims for specific performance, and explore alternative remedies such as monetary compensation or damages recovery. Participants will develop balanced pleadings for both plaintiffs and defendants, accompanied by a comprehensive Procedural Strategy Memorandum, bridging academic knowledge with practical trial applications.

This year, the event honors the memory of Late Ram Behari Gupta, Advocate, celebrating his contributions to legal education and civil law practice.

Competition Theme

The central theme revolves around the Law of Specific Performance and related reliefs under the Specific Relief Act, 1963, focusing on disputes over urban and rural properties. Participants will tackle scenarios involving conflicts between private easement rights and modern redevelopment projects, testing traditional civil remedies like declaratory relief and injunctive actions amidst burgeoning urban development pressures. Competitors will evaluate trial litigation factors, including alternative access, municipal record conflicts, and the strategic balance of interim versus final reliefs.

Eligibility and Team Composition

The competition is open to undergraduate law students (B.A. LL.B., B.Com. LL.B., BBA LL.B., or LL.B. 3-Year) from recognized Indian universities. Participants can register individually or in teams of two, with both single-institutional and cross-institutional teams accepted.
