NLU Delhi and Mentblue Introduce Comprehensive IP Rights Certificate Course

As India’s Intellectual Property (IP) sector continues its rapid growth, there is an increasing demand for legal professionals adept in handling the entire IP lifecycle. Addressing this need, the National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), in collaboration with Mentblue, has launched a specialized Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights: Law & Practice. This program is part of ‘The Practice Series,’ a collaborative initiative aimed at providing participants with practical insights into IP law, as practiced in top IP boutiques and full-service law firms.

Course Overview

Commencing on September 5, 2026, and concluding in October 2026, the course offers live sessions on weekends, accommodating the schedules of both law students and professionals. The curriculum is designed to cover the full spectrum of IP law, from filing and prosecution to enforcement, licensing, and strategic portfolio management.

The course is distinguished by its practitioner-led faculty. Esteemed partners and senior practitioners from leading firms such as Remfry & Sagar, Anand & Anand, Saikrishna & Associates, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, CMS IndusLaw, and Lall & Sethi will conduct the sessions. These experts bring real-world experience, offering insights into the practical aspects of IP law.

Comprehensive Curriculum

The course covers eight modules focusing on various aspects of IP law:

  • Module 1: Trademark Prosecution & Strategy – Covering filing, prosecution, portfolio building, brand protection, and anti-counterfeiting.
  • Module 2: Patent Filing & Enforcement – Includes patentability, claims drafting, PCT, opposition, and litigation.
  • Module 3: GIs, Traditional Knowledge & Plant Varieties – Discusses the GI Act, TKDL, biodiversity law, and plant variety protection.
  • Module 4: Copyright & Media Laws – Explores digital copyright, AI implications, and media value chain regulations.
  • Module 5: Trade Secrets & Data Protection – Focuses on NDAs and the DPDPA interface.
  • Module 6: Industrial Designs – Covers registration, enforcement, and international protection strategies.
  • Module 7: IP Licensing & Commercialisation – Addresses licensing transactions, due diligence, and IP in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Module 8: Fashion & Luxury Law – Discusses trade dress, design, and copyright within the fashion industry.

Additionally, the course includes assignment workshops and a career roadmap session, enhancing its practical value.

Enrollment Information

The 17-session program is open to law students, advocates, in-house counsel, patent and trademark agents, and professionals with corporate or transactional experience. The course fee is ₹12,000 for students and ₹15,000 for professionals, inclusive of taxes. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NLU Delhi’s Centre for Regulatory Studies.
