Gurugram Court Orders Police Custody for Hit-and-Run Accused Kalyan Bainsla

A Gurugram court has directed that Kalyan Bainsla, accused of involvement in a hit-and-run incident, remain in police custody for a period of two days. The order also applies to Bainsla’s cousin, Lavneesh, both of whom were presented before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Nidhi Beniwal on Wednesday. The duo is scheduled for a subsequent court appearance on September 18. Legal representation for the accused is provided by Advocate Lalit Bindal.

Details of the Arrest

Both accused were apprehended in Rajasthan before being transferred to Gurugram on Tuesday. Their arrest follows a case registered by the Sector 55/56 Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 281 (rash driving), and 125 (acts endangering life or personal safety of others). The police application submitted to the magistrate also cites Sections 78 (stalking) and 79 (using words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Incident Overview

The charges were filed after a video surfaced on social media, showing a vehicle purportedly driven by Bainsla, who owns a gym, colliding with a woman’s bike on Golf Course Road. The victim, Shivani Chauhan, who uses the name Sia on social media, captured the incident with a camera mounted on her bike. The footage shows Chauhan falling off her bike following the collision. She has accused Bainsla, referred to as Kalyan Singh in court documents, of prior harassment and of fleeing the scene post-accident.

The video quickly gained traction online, prompting a suo motu case registration by the police. Initially, the police did not charge Bainsla with attempted murder, but the charge was later incorporated under Section 109 of the BNS. The incident has ignited public outrage nationwide, as many demand stringent measures against the accused driver.
