Prof. Devaiah, who has been a foundational faculty member, has significantly contributed to establishing the school’s robust academic and institutional framework. Since taking on the role of Acting Dean on January 16, 2026, he has exhibited outstanding leadership and a steadfast dedication to fostering a forward-thinking educational environment.
In his capacity as Dean, Prof. Devaiah will continue to guide BITS Law School, bolstering its academic foundations and enhancing its reputation as a premier hub for legal education and research.
Distinguished Academic Background
Prof. Devaiah boasts an impressive academic portfolio, holding a PhD from the University of Liverpool, an LL.M. from the University of Warwick, and a Bachelor of Laws from University Law College, Bangalore. His comprehensive experience in legal education and research is complemented by his roles as a research consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO, South Asia) and the Clinton Health Access Initiative.
His scholarly work has earned him several international research grants and he has contributed extensively to academic literature, serving as a reviewer for numerous leading journals. His research interests include music and copyright, artificial intelligence, law and ethics, standard essential patents, competition law, and the interplay between health law, bioethics, and emerging medical technologies.
