Delhi High Court Set to Issue Takedown Orders for Obscene Content Against Ravi Kishan

Delhi High Court to Rule on Takedown of Derogatory Content

The Delhi High Court, on a significant legal front, has announced its intention to issue an interim order to remove obscene and derogatory content targeting actor-politician Ravi Kishan. This development emerged during a session presided over by Justice Jyoti Singh, responding to a legal plea by Kishan aimed at safeguarding his personality rights.

Ravi Kishan’s plea specifically targeted AI-generated pornographic material and other defamatory content circulating online. The Court indicated its directive would encompass various defendants and social media intermediaries, mandating the removal of such objectionable material. Furthermore, the Court directed that Google must take prompt action to remove web links to the flagged content if the responsible entity or individual does not act within one week of receiving the order copy.

Senior advocate N Hariharan, representing Kishan, argued before the Court that offensive content, including pornographic and derogatory Instagram reels, was being disseminated online without Kishan’s consent. Kishan’s legal plea highlighted that these defendants were unlawfully leveraging his celebrity status and public persona to drive traffic to their websites, deriving financial gain from his image.

Additionally, Kishan sought the removal of a radio segment on Ishq 104.8 FM titled ‘What is Love with Kavi Kishan,’ claiming it infringed on his rights by using his name, image, and likeness for commercial purposes without proper authorization. He also pointed out an AI-generated video featuring his mock imitation on IshqFM’s official Instagram account.

The Court, acknowledging the potential violation of Kishan’s rights, signaled its readiness to issue a detailed order for removing the contentious content. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on October 15.

Representing Kishan in this matter are senior advocates N Hariharan and Sanjay Upadhaya, along with advocates Neeraj Grover, Krishna Kumar Shukla, Madhav Anand, Pranav Prasoon, Alvin Antony, Mansi Bachani, Kunal Khanna, and Kartik Mitra.

As the Delhi High Court continues to address the personality rights suit filed by Ravi Kishan, the legal community closely monitors the proceedings. The case is set for further deliberation under the jurisdiction of Justice Jyoti Singh.
