The Karnataka government is actively revising its panel of law officers tasked with representing the state in the Karnataka High Court. This follows a significant administrative shift within the state. As per the notification dated July 17, Advocates Surya Mukundaraj and Anoop Kumar have been appointed as Additional State Public Prosecutors (SPPs) at the Principal Bench, replacing the outgoing BN Jagadeesh and Pushpalatha.
In addition to these appointments, the government has named a Government Advocate, eight Additional Government Advocates (AGAs), and seven High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs) to serve at the Principal Bench of the Karnataka High Court in Bengaluru. Furthermore, new HCGPs have been designated for the Dharwad and Kalaburagi Benches of the High Court.
These appointments are carried out under Rule 23 of the Karnataka Law Officers (Appointments and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1977. According to the notification, these positions will be held for a term of one year or until further orders are issued, whichever occurs first.
Prior to this, on June 12, the Karnataka government appointed two State Public Prosecutors (SPPs) and two Additional State Public Prosecutors (ASPPs), among other legal officers. Further appointments were made on June 16, when 42 Additional Government Advocates (AGAs) and 27 High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs) were assigned to the Principal Bench of the Karnataka High Court.
