The Kerala High Court has officially dismissed the sexual harassment case against prominent businessman Boby Chemmanur. The decision came after a mutual settlement was reached with a Malayalam actress, who had lodged the complaint.
Case Background and Allegations
The legal proceedings were initiated under the case titled CD Boby @ Dr Boby Chemmanur v. State of Kerala. The allegations against Chemmanur stemmed from an incident during the inauguration event of one of his jewelry stores in Kannur, where the actress claimed she was subjected to sexual harassment. Chemmanur faced charges under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to sexual harassment, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act related to the online dissemination of obscene material.
Resolution Through Settlement
Justice Jobin Sebastian, presiding over the case, had earlier stayed further proceedings until July 23, 2025, after the actress submitted an affidavit indicating that the matter had been amicably resolved. The public prosecutor was tasked with verifying the authenticity of this settlement, a process that was completed to the court’s satisfaction.
In light of this settlement, the court decided to quash the criminal proceedings against Chemmanur. The actress had also previously expressed concerns about further harassment, including suggestive remarks made on social media platforms like YouTube, which added to the gravity of the case.
Legal Proceedings and Representation
Chemmanur was initially arrested on January 8, 2025. His bail request was denied by a lower court but was subsequently granted by the Kerala High Court on January 14, 2025. Following the settlement, Chemmanur’s petition to dismiss the case was accepted by the court.
