Judicial Workshop on Admiralty and Shipping Laws by NJA and GMU
The Gujarat Maritime University (GMU), in collaboration with the National Judicial Academy (NJA), is set to host a comprehensive two-day workshop focused on Admiralty and Shipping Laws. Scheduled for August 8 and 9, 2026, this event will take place at GMU’s campus in Gandhinagar.
This judicial workshop aims to unite distinguished judges from the High Courts of Calcutta, Bombay, Madras, Gujarat, Orissa, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. These judges, who have experience in exercising Admiralty Jurisdiction, will join esteemed judicial resource persons to delve into the intricacies of admiralty and shipping law.
According to a press release, the workshop is particularly significant given India’s burgeoning maritime sector and its increasing role in global trade. Admiralty and shipping disputes frequently involve complex legal questions related to maritime claims, jurisdictional challenges, commercial transactions, and international legal standards. By facilitating a platform for dialogue, this program seeks to address both the theoretical and practical aspects of adjudicating such disputes.
One of the key highlights of this event is the participation of judges from seven High Courts, which offers a valuable opportunity for the exchange of judicial experiences. This interaction is expected to enhance understanding regarding the interpretation and application of admiralty and shipping laws across different jurisdictions.
