A Delhi court has upheld the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain, dismissing his plea to have the detention deemed illegal. Presiding over the matter, Special Judge Digvinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Courts determined that Jain’s apprehension by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) complied with legal standards, subsequently ordering his placement in judicial custody.
Jain was apprehended on August 18 by the ACB on allegations involving procedural violations in the tendering process for sewage treatment plant initiatives managed by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Alongside Jain, the court mandated judicial custody for several other individuals implicated in the case, including Udit Prakash Rai, the former CEO of the DJB, Nagendra Yadav, Raja Kumar Kurra, and Pankaj Verma.
In a related development, Ankit Srivastava, another accused, has been placed under police custody for a two-day duration. The ongoing investigation, initiated in May 2024 following a complaint from the Directorate of Vigilance, addresses allegations of manipulating tender conditions, engaging in criminal conspiracy, and purportedly facilitating bribe transactions related to contracts for upgrading the DJB’s sewage treatment facilities.
