Delhi High Court Limits Intern Access: Only Senior Law Students Permitted
The Delhi High Court has announced a significant change in its policy concerning law interns’ access to court premises. This development stems from a circular dated August 24, which outlines new criteria for issuing entry passes and ID cards to law students working under advocates.
Under the revised policy, entry will be restricted to only those law students who are in the final stages of their legal education. Specifically, this encompasses final-year students pursuing the 3-year LLB program and those in the fourth and fifth years of the 5-year integrated LLB course. Henceforth, only these students will be eligible to receive entry passes.
In order to obtain an ID card, law interns must provide the following documentation:
- A recommendation letter from the supervising advocate, which must include the advocate’s enrolment number.
- A photocopy of the advocate’s Bar ID.
- A photocopy of the intern’s Aadhaar card.
- A photocopy of the intern’s college ID card.
- Two stamp-sized photographs of the intern.
This policy adjustment aims to streamline the process and ensure that only those interns who are adequately advanced in their legal education have access to the court’s facilities. It reflects the court’s commitment to maintaining a professional environment while providing practical exposure to students on the verge of entering the legal profession.
