Justice V Sivagnanam Goes Missing Amidst Nepal Floods
In the wake of devastating flash floods in Nepal, former Madras High Court Justice V Sivagnanam has been reported missing. The Delhi Tamil Advocates Association has reached out to the Chief Justice of India (CJI), Surya Kant, urging him to prompt governmental action to locate and bring back the retired judge safely to India.
Bar Body Appeals to CJI for Intervention
On August 30, the bar association submitted a formal request to the CJI, expressing their deep concern regarding Justice Sivagnanam’s untraceability. The letter highlighted that while other pilgrims accompanying him were successfully rescued, Justice Sivagnanam remains out of contact since his last communication with his wife on August 26.
The letter further detailed accounts from fellow travelers who were rescued near the APF Nepal Border Outpost at Timure. They reported that Justice Sivagnanam’s bus was a mere 100–200 meters away at the time of the flooding. These circumstances have left his family and the bar association anxious about his safety and whereabouts.
A Distinguished Judicial Career
Justice Sivagnanam’s career in the judiciary spanned an impressive 34 years. Following his retirement from the bench, he was honored as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in July 2025. His contribution to the legal field is widely recognized, and his disappearance has sent ripples of concern through the legal community.
The situation remains precarious, and the association continues to hope for immediate action from the authorities to ensure the former judge’s safe return.
