NLU Delhi and Mentblue Introduce Certificate Course in Intellectual Property Rights

The landscape of Intellectual Property (IP) law in India is expanding rapidly, creating a pressing need for legal professionals who are not only knowledgeable but also practice-ready. Recognizing this demand, National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), through its Centre for Regulatory Studies (CRS), has collaborated with Mentblue to launch a Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights: Law & Practice. This initiative, known as The Practice Series, is designed to immerse participants in the practical application of IP law as it is practiced within top-tier IP firms.

The course is set to commence on May 30, 2026, and enrollments are currently open.

Course Highlights

Faculty of Practitioners: The course boasts a distinguished faculty comprising partners and senior practitioners from leading law firms such as Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co., Anand & Anand, ZEUS IP, and CMS INDUSLAW. These are the professionals who actively engage in filing, enforcing, and licensing IP, providing participants with genuine insights into the practical aspects of IP law.

Comprehensive IP Lifecycle: The course covers the entire IP lifecycle, from filing and prosecution to enforcement, licensing, and portfolio strategy, following the progression of a real-world IP matter.

Interactive Workshops: Participants will engage in live drafting workshops, dealing with actual examination reports, cease-and-desist notices, licensing agreements, and patent claims.

Internship Opportunity: The top-performing participant in the course will be offered an internship opportunity with CMS INDUSLAW.

Certification: The course is overseen by the Centre for Regulatory Studies at NLU Delhi, with successful participants receiving a certificate from the University.

Course Structure

The course consists of 15 live online sessions spread across seven modules, held on weekends to accommodate law students and working professionals. Participants will have six-month access to session recordings, ensuring flexibility.

Modules include:

  • Trademark Prosecution & Strategy: Covering filing, prosecution, portfolio management, brand protection, anti-counterfeiting, and litigation.
  • Industrial Designs: Focusing on registration, enforcement, stacking strategy, and international protection.
  • Copyright & Media Laws: Examining fundamentals, digital copyright, AI, and the media & entertainment value chain.
  • GIs, Traditional Knowledge & Plant Variety Protection: Exploring the GI Act, TKDL, biodiversity law, and PPVFRA.
  • Patent Filing & Enforcement: Covering patentability, claims drafting, PCT, opposition, revocation, and litigation.
  • Trade Secrets & Data Protection: Addressing confidential information, NDAs, and the DPDPA interface.
  • IP Licensing & Commercialisation: Focusing on transaction structuring, due diligence, portfolio strategy, and M&A.

The course will also feature two dedicated drafting and assignment workshops, along with a session on IP career pathways.

Program Details

Duration: 15 live online sessions from May to July 2026.

Schedule: Weekends, 11:00 AM IST.

Mode: Online, live sessions with 6-month recording access.

Eligibility: Open to law students (LL.B. / LL.M.), advocates, law firm associates, in-house counsel, patent and trademark agents, and finance/IP valuation professionals.
