Professor K Vidyullatha Reddy has been named the new Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University Odisha (NLUO). This significant appointment was confirmed by the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad, where Prof. Reddy had a distinguished career spanning twenty-six years.
Prior to her current role, Prof. Reddy held the position of Registrar at NALSAR, starting in January 2023. Her extensive administrative experience also includes leading the Department of Management Studies at NALSAR. During her tenure, she undertook various responsibilities such as Convener of multiple committees, including the Exam, Moot Court, Admission, and Placement Committees. Additionally, she contributed as a member of NALSAR’s Academic Council, Executive Council, and General Council.
Prof. Reddy is an acclaimed scholar in Environmental Law, holding a Ph.D. in the subject. For over two decades, she has directed NALSAR’s Dr. SP Chatterjee Centre for Environmental Law, Climate Change, and Policy Research. Her academic contributions at NALSAR include teaching courses on the Law of Evidence, Banking and Finance Law, and Environmental Law.
Before joining NALSAR, Prof. Reddy served as the in-charge Principal of Manair Law College, Khammam, for four years. She is the author of two editions of “Solid Waste-Law and Practice” and has edited a book on Consumer Law. Her publication record boasts over twenty research papers, and she serves as Editor-in-Chief of NALSAR’s “Environmental Law and Practice Review”.
Her research initiatives include a pivotal study on women’s coparcenary rights, which influenced legislative changes regarding women’s property rights, as well as a study on waste management in Hyderabad. Furthermore, she played a crucial role in institutionalizing legal aid at NALSAR, including establishing a legal aid center at the Warangal district court.
Prof. Reddy succeeds Prof. (Dr.) Rangin Pallav Tripathy, who has been serving as the Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) of NLUO. Her appointment marks a new chapter for NLUO, as she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the institution.
