A new legal venture, Fair and Square Legal (F&S Legal), has been founded by former Deloitte India Director of Indirect Tax, Abhishek Ranjan, along with his seasoned colleagues Akash Mittal and Sadhvi Gupta. The firm is strategically based in Noida, with additional offices in Delhi and Mumbai, to cater comprehensively to tax, customs, foreign trade, regulatory, and commercial law sectors.
F&S Legal is set to handle a wide array of indirect tax issues, including GST, Customs, Central Excise, Service Tax, VAT, and State Excise. The firm aims to manage everything from historical disputes to current GST matters. Additionally, the firm offers guidance on corporate structuring, commercial contracts, arbitration, and a range of regulatory issues, including SEZ frameworks, insurance laws, FSSAI, and legal metrology.
Prior to this new endeavor, all three founders were part of Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, where Abhishek Ranjan served as an Associate Partner, while Akash Mittal and Sadhvi Gupta were Principal Associates. They transitioned together to Deloitte approximately three years ago.
Abhishek Ranjan, an alumnus of Gujarat National Law University (2007-2012), brings over 14 years of expertise in specialized sectors such as alcobev, tobacco, and manufacturing. He previously led the Eastern India region’s indirect tax practice at Deloitte India and has extensive experience representing clients before various tax authorities and courts in India.
Both Akash Mittal and Sadhvi Gupta held the position of Associate Directors at Deloitte, where they spearheaded litigation and complex indirect tax projects, including cross-border assignments in South Asia. Mittal, a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Delhi, brings expertise in mining, FMCG, and real estate, while Gupta specializes in insurance, GCCs, education, and technology sectors.
In a joint statement, the founders expressed, “We are deeply grateful for the trust and confidence reposed in us by our clients over the years. The decision to establish F&S Legal reflects our shared vision of creating a partner-led practice that combines technical excellence with commercially focused advice. We also intend to work closely with startups and early-stage businesses, providing end-to-end legal and tax support as they scale.”
