Karnataka Appellate Tribunal Seeks Law Clerks and Court Typists

The Karnataka Appellate Tribunal (KAT) has announced openings for Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistants and Court Typists-cum-Stenographers in Bengaluru. These positions are offered on an honorarium basis, and applications are currently being accepted via email or in person at the Registrar’s office. KAT aims to fill 10 positions for Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistants and 5 positions for Court Typists-cum-Stenographers.

Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistants

Selected Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistants will work closely with the Hon’ble Judges/Members of the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal. Their responsibilities include assisting with both judicial and administrative tasks. Specific duties involve reading case files, preparing case summaries, and identifying key facts and issues. They are expected to be present during court hearings to take notes and conduct research on case law and other relevant materials to aid the Judges/Members.

Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistants will have access to courtrooms, libraries, computers, and the internet, and may enter the chambers of the Judges/Members with appropriate permission. The role comes with a monthly honorarium of INR 60,000, with the term lasting one year from the date of joining, subject to potential extension by the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal.

Eligibility for Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistants

  • A law degree from a recognized university in India with at least 50% marks.
  • Must be under 30 years of age on the application deadline.
  • Enrollment as an Advocate with the Karnataka State Bar Council.
  • Proficiency in computer operations.

Applications from ineligible candidates will be dismissed without notice.

Court Typists-cum-Stenographers

Positions for Court Typists-cum-Stenographers are temporary and short-term, offering a monthly honorarium of INR 40,000. Payments will be made directly to the appointee’s bank account. The engagement period is typically one year, extendable by another year based on the discretion of the Hon’ble Chairman. These roles do not guarantee regular appointment or extension beyond the initial term.

Eligibility for Court Typists-cum-Stenographers

  • Qualification in Kannada and English shorthand with at least 60% marks.
  • Must be under 30 years of age on the application deadline.
  • Proficiency in computer operations.

Applications from ineligible candidates will be dismissed without notice.
