The case in question involved the cessation of pension for a retired employee. The counsel had previously requested the court to schedule the hearing after August 17, due to his engagement in the Bar Association elections. The court acknowledged the lawyer’s absence and rescheduled the hearing for August 20.
Media reports indicate that Senior Advocate Mrigendra Singh was elected President of the High Court Bar Association (Jabalpur Bench) following the election results announced on August 18. Advocate Asim Trivedi was named Secretary. The court’s light-hearted remark, “It appears that under shock due to loss in election to the High Court Bar Association, arguing counsel is not available today,” underscored the unusual nature of the situation.
