Introduction to New Appointments
The State of Bihar has officially named two distinguished legal professionals, Ashwarya Sinha and Keshav Ranjan, as Additional Advocates General (AAG) to represent its interests before the Supreme Court of India. This significant announcement was made by the Bihar Law Department on September 10, following the protocols outlined in the Bihar Law Officers (Engagement) Rules, 2023.
About Ashwarya Sinha
Ashwarya Sinha is a seasoned advocate-on-record (AOR) with the Bar Council of Delhi, possessing nearly 17 years of experience in the legal field. Sinha’s expertise lies in corporate and commercial dispute resolution, making him a valuable asset for handling complex litigations. Throughout his career, he has represented various government bodies, corporations, and individual clients. Additionally, Sinha has served as the standing counsel for the Central government, further honing his skills in representing public interests.
About Keshav Ranjan
Keshav Ranjan, originally from Samastipur, Bihar, pursued his early education in the State before embarking on his legal journey in Delhi. After obtaining his LLB in 2005, he commenced his practice under the mentorship of the esteemed former Union Law Minister and advocate, Ram Jethmalani. With over two decades of legal practice, Ranjan has gained extensive experience in a wide array of legal domains, including civil and criminal law, constitutional law, service law, land acquisition, intellectual property rights, company law, taxation, work contracts, and arbitration.
Roles and Responsibilities
In their capacity as AAGs, Sinha and Ranjan will shoulder the responsibility of managing Bihar’s legal affairs in the Supreme Court. Their duties include appearing personally in the cases assigned to them, providing counsel to the State government, and submitting regular reports on the cases they handle. Furthermore, they are obligated to keep the Advocate General and the relevant State department informed about any unfavorable court orders, ensuring that Bihar’s legal strategies are promptly adjusted to safeguard its interests.
