On Monday, a Delhi court moved forward with charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against prominent Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) figures, Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and their son Tejashwi Yadav. These charges are linked to the alleged money laundering activities surrounding the Lara Projects case.
The ruling was passed by Special Judge Vishal Gogne of the Rouse Avenue Courts, who also extended charges to other entities and individuals, including Lara Projects, Sarla Gupta, Prem Chand Gupta, Sujata Hotels, Vinay Kochhar, and Vijay Kochar. However, Judge Gogne decided to discharge several others, including Rahul Yadav, Lalu Yadav’s son-in-law, along with Gaurav Gupta, Nath Mal Kankarnia, Vijay Tripathi, DN Tulshyan, Rajiv Relan, and Abhishek Finance.
Back on October 13, 2025, Lalu Prasad Yadav faced charges of corruption, criminal conspiracy, and cheating. His wife, Rabri Devi, and son, Tejashwi Yadav, were also charged with conspiracy and cheating. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has accused the former Railway Minister and his family of accepting valuable land and shares as bribes in exchange for awarding lucrative contracts to a private firm during his tenure as Railway Minister.
According to the CBI’s allegations, between 2004 and 2009, during Lalu Yadav’s leadership, two Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) hotels located in Ranchi and Puri were leased to Sujata Hotels through a manipulated tendering process. In return, land valued at crores was allegedly transferred to a company connected to Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav at prices far below market value.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated a PMLA case following the CBI’s First Information Report (FIR) against the Yadav family. However, the family has consistently questioned the validity of the investigation, claiming that the accusations are politically motivated and lack substantial evidence.
