Delhi High Court Issues Summons in Defamation Case
In a significant legal development, the Delhi High Court issued summons to a lawyer in response to a defamation lawsuit filed by journalist Omar Rashid. The lawsuit arises from allegations made by the lawyer, accusing Rashid of sexual harassment and coercively feeding her beef.
Presiding over the case, Justice Sachin Datta initiated the summons and further issued a notice on Rashid’s plea seeking interim relief. The court has scheduled the matter for a detailed hearing in two weeks.

The controversy began in 2025 when an anonymous accuser took to social media to allege that Rashid was involved in rape, abuse, and forced consumption of beef. The serious nature of these accusations led the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to file a formal complaint, prompting the Delhi High Court to request an action-taken report from the Delhi Police.
After a comprehensive inquiry spanning over 300 days, the NHRC concluded the proceedings, as the Delhi Police reported insufficient grounds to advance with a formal investigation into the claims.
