In a recent legal development, former bureaucrat Ashish Joshi has filed a petition in Delhi’s Patiala House Court, requesting access to the first information report (FIR) filed against him by the Delhi Police. The court is expected to hear the case, presided over by Judge Mridul Gupta, on Tuesday.
The FIR stems from Joshi’s activities on social media, which led to extensive questioning by the Delhi Police Special Cell on September 2. Joshi, who served as an officer in the 1992 batch of the Indian Posts and Telecommunications Accounts and Finance Service, retired at the rank of Additional Secretary in March 2026.
Reports indicate that Joshi was detained during a morning walk and subsequently taken to the Counter Intelligence unit’s office in New Friends Colony. He was interrogated in relation to the FIR, which had been filed two days prior, and was released following the recording of his statement.
Joshi’s legal plea has been submitted by his legal team, comprising advocates Aadil Singh Boparai, Ronit Bose, and Nikunj Bindal, as they seek transparency in the legal proceedings against him.
It is important to clarify that an earlier version of this report incorrectly described Joshi as a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. He was, in fact, an officer of the Indian Communication Finance Service. The error is sincerely regretted.
