The Supreme Court Collegium has officially recommended Justice Kaushik Goswami for the role of a permanent judge at the Gauhati High Court. This significant decision was finalized during the Collegium’s meeting on September 23, 2026.
According to the statement issued by the Supreme Court, “The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on 23rd September 2026, has approved the proposal for the appointment of Shri Justice Kaushik Goswami, Additional Judge, as Permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court.”
Justice Goswami initially joined the Gauhati High Court as an additional judge on November 2, 2023, and was sworn in on November 10, 2023. His elevation to the judiciary came from his extensive legal experience in the Bar.
Born on September 4, 1975, Justice Goswami completed his early education at Don Bosco School in Guwahati and at Delhi Public School, RK Puram in New Delhi. He further pursued higher education in law, earning a Bachelor of Social Legal Sciences degree followed by an LLB from ILS Law College in Pune.
Justice Goswami began his legal career by enrolling as an advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh on July 27, 2000. His expertise and dedication to the legal field were recognized when he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court on May 19, 2022, a position he held until his judicial appointment in November 2023.
Currently, Justice Goswami serves at the Aizawl Bench of the Gauhati High Court, bringing his vast experience and legal acumen to the judiciary.
