Uber Legal Director Kanishk Transitions to Google as India Legal Head

Kanishk, a prominent figure in the legal domain, has announced his departure from Uber, where he held the position of Director of Legal, to embark on a new journey with Google as the India Legal Head. This transition is set to take place in September 2026, as confirmed by Google to Bar & Bench.

An alumnus of the esteemed West Bengal National University of Juridical Services (WBNUJS) in Kolkata, Kanishk graduated in 2007 and has since accumulated nearly two decades of experience in the legal field. His expertise spans across various domains, including mergers and acquisitions, defense procurement, and general corporate advisory.

Kanishk’s legal career commenced at the erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas, where he honed his skills before advancing to Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. During his tenure at these prestigious firms, he dedicated a total of 15 years to developing his legal acumen.

In 2022, Kanishk transitioned from a law firm to an in-house role, taking up the position of Director of Legal for Uber’s operations in India, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. His leadership and strategic insights were instrumental in navigating the legal landscape for the company.

This move to Google follows the resignation of Bijoya Roy, Google’s former Head of Legal, who departed earlier this year after a 16-month tenure. Kanishk’s appointment as India Legal Head is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives and bolster Google’s legal strategies in the region.
