An advocate has initiated a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court, addressing the disruption caused by the ongoing strike of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) workers. The case, titled Ami Sisodia vs Government of NCT of Delhi & Ors, is expected to be reviewed by a bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia on Wednesday.
The strike, which commenced on September 15, involves bus drivers, conductors, and other personnel, who are protesting to demand better wages and benefits. The PIL seeks urgent intervention to restore, maintain, and ensure the continuity of public bus services in the capital.
The petitioner, Ami Sisodia, highlights the challenges faced by many commuters, especially women, who are deprived of the free public transport service. As a result, they are compelled to use more expensive transport options. The petition emphasizes that the strike significantly affects thousands, including students, daily-wage workers, salaried employees, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, patients, and economically disadvantaged individuals who rely on affordable public transportation.
Moreover, the plea notes that the absence of bus services has increased the burden on Delhi Metro services, further straining the city’s public transport facilities. Advocate Vikrant Dabas has submitted the petition on behalf of the petitioner.
