Corporate legal expert Promode Murugavelu is set to make a significant career move by joining Trilegal in Chennai, departing from his role as a Corporate Partner at Khaitan & Co. This marks the first major lateral hire for Trilegal’s Chennai office since its establishment in February 2026.
Amar Sinhji, Executive Director of Khaitan & Co, confirmed Murugavelu’s departure, stating, “We appreciate Promode’s invaluable contributions to our Corporate Practice in Chennai and wish him the best in his future endeavors.” While Trilegal has yet to comment on the new appointment, industry watchers are anticipating the impact Murugavelu will bring to their corporate team.
Murugavelu, a distinguished alumnus of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, graduated in 2006. With two decades of experience in the legal field, he specializes in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, joint ventures, private equity, and venture capital. His expertise extends across diverse sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, edtech, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, and information technology.
Before his stint at Khaitan & Co, where he served as a Partner for over three years, Murugavelu’s career included key positions at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, the former Amarchand Mangaldas, Tatva Legal (now TLH Advocates), and Dua Associates. His extensive experience is expected to bolster Trilegal’s capabilities in handling intricate corporate legal matters.
This strategic move aligns with Trilegal’s growth objectives, particularly in strengthening its footprint in Chennai’s dynamic legal market. Murugavelu’s arrival is poised to enhance the firm’s service offerings, delivering robust legal solutions to its clientele.
