Introduction
Saurav Das, a spokesperson for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and a known activist, has initiated legal proceedings in the Delhi High Court against several media entities and individuals. The defendants include media commentator Abhijit Iyer-Mitra and platforms such as The Pamphlet, Law Beat, The Jaipur Dialogues, and The Sunday Guardian. The primary grievance stems from the alleged unauthorized public disclosure of Das’s residential address and personal details.
Legal Claims
In his legal suit, Das demands compensation exceeding ₹2 crore, asserting that the publication of his personal information constitutes a breach of privacy. He is also seeking permanent injunctions to prevent the defendants from further disseminating his residential address. Additionally, Das requests the court to instruct these media outlets to retract and disable access to any content revealing his personal information.
Specific Allegations
According to the suit, Das has been residing in a rented accommodation in Greater Kailash-I since early 2025. He alleges that representatives from The Pamphlet unlawfully entered the shared residential premises, recorded footage, and posted it on the social media platform X on August 5. This video, which allegedly exposed his address, quickly amassed over 2.1 million views. It was subsequently reposted on August 10.
Further Accusations
Das’s complaint also highlights that Abhijit Iyer-Mitra disclosed his address during a program on Law Beat, inaccurately claiming the rent to be approximately ₹7 lakh monthly. Iyer-Mitra is accused of perpetuating this disclosure through multiple social media posts. Despite registering a police complaint and notifying the defendants on August 5 about the security concerns, Das contends that the alleged violations persisted.
Potential Risks
The legal suit underscores the heightened security risks that these disclosures pose to Das and his family. It states, “The repeated disclosures, viewed together with the Plaintiff’s prior exposure to violent threats, materially increase the possibility of his home being located by hostile persons and expose the Plaintiff, his family members, and other occupants of the premises to intimidation, harassment, and physical violence.”
