Sangeetha Vijay, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, has decided to withdraw her divorce petition from the District Court in Chengalpattu. The initial filing, made earlier this year under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, sought a formal divorce and stipulated maintenance alimony.
Sangeetha had initially cited allegations involving Vijay, a prominent actor-turned-politician, in an extramarital affair with another actress. However, the case took a new turn as she retracted the petition this past Friday.
The couple’s marriage journey began with a registration in the United Kingdom on July 10, 1998. They later performed additional matrimonial rites in Chennai according to Hindu customs on August 25, 1999.
In her original plea, Sangeetha had not only requested the dissolution of their marriage but also sought the right to reside in their matrimonial home until the case’s resolution or the provision of alternative accommodation. Additionally, she demanded permanent alimony reflecting Vijay’s income.
