In his announcement, Home Minister Amit Shah stated, “The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, has resolved to set up a new bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in Ladakh. This initiative will greatly improve access to justice for people residing in the remote areas of Ladakh by minimizing the time necessary to utilize legal services.”
Current High Court Structure
At present, the High Court operates with two benches, located in Srinagar and Jammu. The upcoming Ladakh bench will become the third bench, further integrating the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, which currently administers the legal needs of both Union Territories.
