UK Court to Hear Vijay Aggarwal's Bail Plea on Sexual Assault Charges

The bail application of Indian criminal lawyer Vijay Aggarwal, who is embroiled in a sexual offense case, is scheduled for hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London on September 23. This session is not only set to address Aggarwal’s bid for bail but will also examine the arraignment of both him and his co-defendant, Manpreet Kaur. Additionally, the court will consider various case management issues, potentially including applications for the pre-recorded testimony of witnesses.

Upcoming Court Proceedings

The upcoming hearing has been designated as a further case management session and is anticipated to last approximately an hour. The trial judge, if appointed by that time, will preside over the proceedings. The court has also earmarked March 15, 2027, as the commencement date for the trial, which is projected to extend over four weeks.

Charges and Initial Arrest

Vijay Aggarwal, widely recognized for his legal representation of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, faces four counts of sexual assault in the UK. His assistant, Manpreet Kaur, has been charged with two counts of intentionally encouraging or assisting sexual assault. Notably, Kaur’s application for bail has already been denied.

In August, officers from the Metropolitan Police responded to reports of sexual assaults at Aggarwal’s rented residence on Brick Street in Mayfair. Following their investigation, Aggarwal was arrested and formally charged.

Recent Developments and Allegations

During a prior hearing at Southwark Crown Court on September 10, prosecutors informed the court of an additional rape allegation emerging against Aggarwal. This new allegation is separate from the existing four sexual assault charges. The ongoing investigation involves three complainants, and the complexity of the case has led prosecutors to request additional time to finalize the indictment.

Defense and Bail Application

Despite these serious accusations, Aggarwal’s defense team has opposed his continued detention, emphasizing his reputation as a person of exemplary good character. Nevertheless, Aggarwal remains in custody, with the court set to deliberate on his bail application on September 23.
