The Delhi High Court has sentenced Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav to three months in prison following a cheque bounce case. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma delivered the verdict, addressing seven cases initiated by M/s Murli Projects Private Limited. Each case resulted in a three-month simple imprisonment sentence for Yadav, with the sentences set to run concurrently.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Yadav to pay ₹1.05 crore per case. His wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, was also fined over ₹5 crore in each instance. Justice Sharma highlighted that Yadav was given several chances to comply with his financial obligations to the company but failed to do so.
“Opportunities were granted to honor the settlement. He [Yadav] and his counsel made several statements and assurances, and despite these repeated opportunities and assurances, he failed to honor the undertakings,” the Court noted.
Justice Sharma further allowed Yadav two months to appeal the decision in a higher court. This is not the first legal setback for Yadav, who was previously convicted by a sessions court in May 2024 and sentenced to six months in jail over a similar issue.
The Delhi High Court initially suspended Yadav’s earlier sentence based on his counsel’s assurance that the financial dispute would be resolved. This case was even referred to the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre. Nevertheless, the court observed that despite numerous assurances and adjournments for settlement purposes, Yadav did not fulfill his payment promises.
Yadav had failed to pay the amounts he assured the court, including ₹2.5 crore he was allowed to pay in installments. The High Court directed Yadav to surrender to jail authorities in February 2026 for non-compliance with its orders, and his request for more time to surrender was denied.
Yadav eventually surrendered on February 5 and was jailed until the High Court granted him interim sentence suspension after he deposited ₹1.5 crore with the complainant. However, because he did not deposit the remaining amount despite multiple undertakings, the court confirmed his three-month imprisonment.
