The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has announced a decision to refrain from work on Monday, May 25, in protest against a proposal that seeks to increase the pecuniary jurisdiction of district courts from ₹2 crores to ₹20 crores.
This proposal was initially put forward by the Coordination Committee of the All District Courts Bar Association of Delhi. In May 2025, they communicated their request to Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and members of the Law Commission, advocating for this significant jurisdictional enhancement.
In response, the Delhi High Court formed a committee comprising its judges to deliberate on the matter, engage with relevant stakeholders, and provide recommendations. Despite these measures, the DHCBA has consistently opposed the proposed changes.
Importantly, on January 24, the Registrar General of the High Court extended an invitation to representatives of the Coordination Committee of the All District Courts Bar Association to participate in discussions with the judges’ committee. This meeting was intended to address concerns and gather input on the jurisdictional adjustments.
