Supreme Court Ejects Disruptive Litigant Following Outburst
In a dramatic turn of events on Friday, a litigant was forcibly removed from the Supreme Court of India following an aggressive outburst during proceedings. The individual was appearing before a Bench comprising Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe, challenging a prior decision by the Allahabad High Court.
The situation unfolded in an unexpected manner when the petitioner, who chose to represent himself, adopted a confrontational tone. He began his submissions by addressing the court in a commanding manner, stating, “Mr judicial servant. I order you to order the registration of an FIR against the ACP … Lucknow.”
Justice Viswanathan, visibly taken aback, questioned the petitioner, “You are ordering me? You are ordering us?” The litigant, however, remained undeterred and responded, “That is all from my side. Everything is on record.”
The scenario escalated when the petitioner threw the case file into the air and began to hurl verbal abuses within the courtroom. This act led to immediate intervention by the court’s security personnel, who swiftly removed the individual from the premises to restore order.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by court officials when dealing with disruptive behaviors that can impede judicial proceedings. The Supreme Court, known for its decorum and solemnity, rarely encounters such direct confrontations.
The Bench, led by Justice Viswanathan, maintained composure throughout the incident, ensuring that court proceedings were not unduly disrupted. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining decorum and respect within judicial environments, as well as the mechanisms in place to handle breaches of conduct.
