The Supreme Court Collegium has put forward the name of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati for the esteemed position of Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Currently serving as a judge at the Rajasthan High Court, Justice Bhati’s candidacy was decided during a collegium meeting on August 31. This proposal awaits approval from the central government, following which Justice Bhati will succeed Justice Sanjeev Kumar, the acting Chief Justice since June 2.
Justice Bhati brings a wealth of experience to the table, having dedicated nearly 25 years to practicing law before his elevation to the Rajasthan High Court bench on November 16, 2016. His legal career is marked by significant roles, including serving as Additional Advocate General for the State and being elected as President of the High Court Lawyers Association at various times.
The potential appointment of Justice Bhati as Chief Justice underscores the collegium’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary with experienced and capable leaders. His legal acumen and service record have been instrumental in his recommendation for this pivotal role.
In a related note, Justice Bhati’s wife, Justice Nupur Bhati, was also appointed as a judge to the Rajasthan High Court in 2023, further highlighting a family deeply committed to the field of law.
