The Delhi High Court has officially appointed Judge Anu Grover Baliga as a special judge to preside over criminal cases related to paper leaks and the misuse of unfair methods in public examinations. This decision was communicated through a notification issued by the High Court on Thursday evening.
Previously, Judge Baliga served as the judge-in-charge at the Mediation Centre in the Central District, located at Tis Hazari Courts. Under her new role, she will be known as the “Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI)-25, (Specially Designated Fast Track Court),” and will adjudicate offenses under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, along with related offenses. Her courtroom will be situated at the Rouse Avenue Court Complex.
This announcement from the High Court coincides with a recent declaration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasized the establishment of fast-track courts aimed at delivering prompt and severe repercussions for individuals implicated in paper leak scandals. The initiative to create special courts is a response to increasing student demonstrations nationwide, triggered by a series of examination paper leaks.
Protests, led by students and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), have intensified, with gatherings at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Demonstrators are calling for accountability and have demanded the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
