BCI Calls for Legal Community’s Intervention in Student Protests
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has called on the legal community, intellectuals, and conscientious citizens to engage in safeguarding the nation amidst ongoing student protests. BCI asserts that these protests have been hijacked by anti-national forces aiming to destabilize India. The statement, titled “An Appeal to the Intellectuals of the Country,” was issued by BCI Chairman and senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra.
According to Mishra, external adversaries are exploiting student protests to undermine India’s stability, claiming that innocent students are being misled by these elements. “Anti-social and anti-national forces have hijacked their agitation,” Mishra stated, emphasizing that such forces intend to disrupt India’s economic and global progress.
Furthermore, the press release accuses certain politicians with foreign ties of inciting unrest among the youth. Mishra asserts, “Every prudent person recognizes that such individuals have no genuine concern for the peace and prosperity of our Bharat; instead, they are dancing to the tune of enemy countries.” He warns that these individuals aim to create chaos and seize power, with no regard for the students’ or the nation’s welfare.
The statement also alleges that a particular unnamed politician has been in contact with anti-Indian figures and has received funds over the past decade to destabilize India. Mishra mentions that experts in stone pelting have been brought into major cities like Delhi to provoke violence against police and disrupt public order.
Mishra claims that these activities are part of a larger social media campaign orchestrated by foreign powers like Pakistan, China, and Bangladesh, in collaboration with some Indian political parties. “These networks are operated from abroad and are misleading our youth by spreading distorted information,” the statement reads.

In light of these claims, Mishra emphasizes the responsibility of the legal profession and intellectuals to educate the public and students about the truth. “It is the duty of the legal profession and of all intellectuals and prudent citizens to step forward and convey the truth to innocent students and the wider public,” he stated.
Mishra highlighted the historical role of the “intellectually sound class” in defending the nation against foreign conspiracies and emphasized that professionals have a duty to awaken public conscience during times of national danger.
The BCI press release outlines expectations for educators and institutions, urging them to promote informed dialogue and constitutional awareness to prevent students from engaging in violence. Mishra calls on parents to ensure that young people are not exploited for unlawful purposes.
