Gaurav Bhatia Initiates ₹2 Crore Defamation Suit in Delhi High Court Against CJP Leaders

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia has initiated legal proceedings, filing a defamation lawsuit in the Delhi High Court. The case targets the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and its prominent figures, Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka, seeking damages amounting to ₹2 crore.

The dispute stems from a controversial AI-generated graphic, which falsely attributed derogatory remarks to Bhatia concerning Swatantra Bhardwaj. Bhardwaj is accused of assaulting the father of CJP activist Nishu Azad. The contentious post wrongly quoted Bhatia as describing Bhardwaj as a “dimagi naxal,” a term that sparked significant backlash.

Upon discovering the misleading graphic posted on X by Saurav Das, Bhatia promptly refuted the statement’s authenticity. He demanded that Das remove the post and issue an unconditional apology within a 24-hour timeframe. Although Das eventually complied and deleted the post, he maintained on his X account that the content was AI-generated, questioning Bhatia if he “disagreed” with the AI’s interpretation.

Further escalating the situation, CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka reportedly amplified the disputed content by reposting it from Das’s account, accompanied by a caption mocking BJP leaders. Ranka had previously aligned with Das and other CJP members in calling for action against Bhardwaj over the alleged assault incident involving Azad’s father.

This case highlights the ongoing tensions between political entities and the challenges posed by AI-generated content in public discourse. The Delhi High Court’s decision in this lawsuit could set a significant precedent regarding defamation and the responsibilities of individuals when disseminating AI-generated information.
