The Supreme Court Collegium has put forward the name of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati for the esteemed position of Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Justice Bhati currently holds a judgeship at the Rajasthan High Court. This recommendation emerged from a collegium meeting held on August 31.
Upon receiving approval from the central government, Justice Bhati is set to succeed Justice Sanjeev Kumar, who has been fulfilling the role of Acting Chief Justice for the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh since June 2, 2026.
Justice Bhati’s legal career spans nearly 25 years, during which he practiced in various fields of law. His judicial journey began when he was appointed to the Rajasthan High Court bench on November 16, 2016. Prior to his elevation, he served as an Additional Advocate General for the State and held the position of President of the High Court Lawyers Association on several occasions.
In a notable connection, Justice Bhati’s spouse, Justice Nupur Bhati, has also been appointed as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 2023.
