The Karnataka High Court, on a recent Friday, requested a response from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding a bail application filed by former Hassan Member of Parliament (MP), Prajwal Revanna. This pertains to allegations that he coerced a woman into appearing nude during video calls. The case is officially cited as Prajwal Revanna Vs State of Karnataka.
Justice M Nagaprasanna, presiding over the matter, has issued a notice to the SIT, which is tasked with investigating the allegations. The court has instructed the SIT to submit its objections by July 3, when the case will be revisited.
Prajwal Revanna is currently serving a life sentence following his conviction in a separate rape case. The present allegations claim that Revanna manipulated a woman to appear nude on video calls by promising to secure a school admission for her son.
The prosecution asserts that the victim had approached Revanna in 2019 to seek his assistance in obtaining her son’s admission to a Kendriya Vidyalaya under the MP quota. It is alleged that Revanna, having obtained her contact information, persistently engaged her in video calls from 2019 to 2021, during which he demanded that she disrobe onscreen. Further allegations include that these calls were recorded without her consent, with the recordings later used to threaten her into compliance for future calls.
The charges against Revanna involve multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 354A for sexual harassment, Section 354B for assault or criminal force with the intent to disrobe, Section 354D for stalking, and Section 506 for criminal intimidation. Additionally, charges under Sections 66E and 67 of the Information Technology Act are applicable.
Legal representation for Revanna is being provided by Advocate G Arun. On behalf of the State, Special Public Prosecutor BN Jagadeesh has accepted the notice.
In a related legal matter, Prajwal Revanna was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Bengaluru special court in August 2025 for the repeated rape of a domestic worker, a crime for which he also recorded videos of the assaults. Moreover, three additional cases involving sexual offenses are currently pending against him.
