The Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA) organized a prestigious event titled “Prathibha 2026” on Thursday to honor Chief Minister VD Satheesan, along with state ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and newly elected members of the Bar Council of Kerala. The Ceremony
Chief Minister VD Satheesan, a distinguished lawyer and a member of KHCAA, was recognized with a traditional ponnada and a commemorative plaque. MLAs Mathew Kuzhalnadan and Chandy Oommen, alongside KHCAA members recently elected to the Bar Council of Kerala, were also honored during the event. The ceremony was graced by Chief Justice Soumen Sen, Advocate General Jaju Babu, Fisheries Minister VE Abdul Gafoor, and other notable leaders such as MLAs Mathew Kuzhalnadan, Chandy Oommen, and Fyzal Babu VK.

KHCAA President Peeyus A Kottam described the appointment of VD Satheesan as Chief Minister as a historic achievement for the association and the legal community. He remarked, “It is indeed a moment of immense pride and joy for all of us. Our dear friend and close associate, CM VD Satheesan, has assumed the high office of the Chief Minister of Kerala. This is a historic moment, not only for him but also for the entire legal fraternity and KHCAA.”
Kottam emphasized the association’s influence, noting that 12 members of the newly elected Bar Council of Kerala are from KHCAA. He urged the government to consider an Advocates’ Protection Bill and address longstanding issues concerning court fees and other professional challenges.

Chief Justice Soumen Sen highlighted the critical role of the legal profession in governance and democracy, stating, “The Bar has always been a nursery of leadership. India’s freedom movement witnessed lawyers emerging as nation builders, and many of the architects of our Constitution came from the legal profession.” He further elaborated on how legal practice fosters qualities essential for public service, such as analytical thinking and wise decision-making.

He noted, “For the first time in Kerala’s history, a member of the KHCAA has become the Chief Minister. Three members of the Association are now Ministers in the state government. He assured that the legislation would provide adequate protection to advocates in Kerala and emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the Kerala High Court’s pending demands.
