Prominent right-wing activist and commentator Rahul K Easwar has approached the Kerala High Court seeking action against purported derogatory remarks made by Dalit activist Sunny M Kapikad regarding the Sabarimala deities, Lord Ayyappa and Malikappurathamma. Easwar’s petition calls for the removal, blocking, and disabling of access to a contentious video shared on social media in which Kapikad allegedly made the offensive comments.
The case was presented before Justice G Girish, who stated that the petition would be scheduled for hearing on September 10 following the amendment of the plea. Justice Girish remarked, “I allowed your application for correction of your prayer. After that, I will consider the correction to be carried out by Registry.” The court also highlighted that steps for issuing a notice had not yet been initiated.
Easwar’s legal representative urged for the matter to be heard on Thursday to address the plea and the interim relief the petitioner seeks. Consequently, the court has set the date for September 10.
On August 31, the court instructed the Public Prosecutor to gather information from the State authorities and the Cyber Crime Police Station regarding the issue, while also issuing notifications to Meta Platforms and Kapikad. The court permitted notification to Meta via email or its standing counsel and to Kapikad through a special messenger.
