The Central government has approved the appointment of three new judges to the Jharkhand High Court, following a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium. This significant development aims to strengthen the judicial capacity of the High Court, which has been operating below full capacity.

The three judicial officers appointed as judges are Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar, and Ram Sharma. This announcement was made public by Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Union Minister for Law and Justice, through a post on the social media platform X earlier today.
Supreme Court Collegium’s Role
The Supreme Court Collegium, known for its role in recommending judges for higher judiciary positions, conducted a meeting on September 10, during which they proposed the names of these new judges. The Collegium’s recommendations are crucial for maintaining a robust judicial system in India.
Impact on Jharkhand High Court
The Jharkhand High Court, which has a sanctioned capacity of 25 judges, was previously operating with only 13 judges, leaving 12 positions unfilled. With the induction of these three new judges, the court’s operating strength will increase to 16 judges, thereby enhancing its ability to manage caseloads efficiently.
