Senior Advocates Appointed as Additional Advocate Generals for Tamil Nadu in Supreme Court

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the appointment of two distinguished senior advocates, Prashanto Chandra Sen and Haripriya Padmanabhan, as Additional Advocate Generals (AAGs) to represent the state in the Supreme Court of India. These appointments were formally communicated through a government order from the Home (Courts-IV) Department, dated June 2.

Both Prashanto Chandra Sen and Haripriya Padmanabhan bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles, where they will serve as counsel for Tamil Nadu in the nation’s highest court. Their appointments are set to continue until the regular selection and appointment of Law Officers are completed under the prescribed rules.

In addition to these key appointments, the Tamil Nadu government has also designated five Advocates-on-Record to represent the state in the Supreme Court. These appointments include Rupali Francesca Samuel, B Karunakaran, Vrinda Bhandari, Jayasree Narasimhan, and Kanika Kalaiyarasan. This strategic move is part of an effort to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s legal representation at the national level.

The recent changes in Tamil Nadu’s legal team in the Supreme Court follow the political shift brought about by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, led by Vijay, which assumed power in May 2026. Such changes underscore the state’s commitment to robust legal advocacy and representation in significant judicial matters.
