Delhi Court Grants Interim Protection to Singer Sapna Choudhary in Domestic Violence Case

A Delhi court has extended interim protection to the well-known Haryanvi singer and actor Sapna Choudhary amidst ongoing domestic violence allegations. Presiding over the matter, Judicial Magistrate First Class (Mahila court) Nidhi Singh at Dwarka Courts has issued an order preventing Choudhary’s husband, Yashveer Sahu, from making any form of contact with her until the subsequent court date.

The court’s directive specifically restrains Sahu from approaching Choudhary at her home, workplace, or any public venue associated with her professional engagements, such as the upcoming premiere of her film Momacu. This temporary injunction remains effective until the next hearing. The legal action was initiated under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

Choudhary has alleged that Sahu’s conduct compelled her to vacate their shared residence, leading her to seek refuge with her family in Najafgarh, Delhi. Alongside her legal plea, she presented the court with an affidavit and visual evidence purportedly showing injuries, as well as audio recordings to substantiate her claims of domestic violence.

Her legal representative argued that Choudhary harbors genuine concerns about potential further abuse, especially with the looming public event related to her film. The counsel emphasized that issuing a temporary protection order would not harm Sahu but would significantly safeguard Choudhary’s immediate safety and professional obligations.

Upon reviewing the preliminary evidence, the court concluded there were sufficient grounds to provide Choudhary with immediate protection. The court’s order explicitly states, “Respondent (Sahu) is restrained from contacting the petitioner (Choudhary) in any manner or visiting her place of residence or work (temporary or permanent, including the venue of the premiere of the movie as stated above) and committing any act of domestic violence till the NDOH.”

Furthermore, the court instructed the relevant Protection Officer and local law enforcement to ensure the enforcement of these protective measures and to aid Choudhary if necessary. During the proceedings, it was revealed that Choudhary is recognized as Sahu’s lawful spouse and that they have two minor children, currently under Sahu’s care. However, the court noted the absence of documents to preliminarily verify their marriage.

Choudhary’s legal counsel assured the court that necessary documentation would be submitted at the forthcoming hearing. Consequently, the court has summoned Sahu to appear at the next hearing scheduled for July 25. Advocate Preeti Singh is representing Choudhary in this case.
