Rohitashya Roy Named Advocate General of Jharkhand

Rohitashya Roy Takes Charge as Jharkhand’s Advocate General

The government of Jharkhand has officially appointed Advocate Rohitashya Roy as the new Advocate General (AG) of the state. This significant appointment was confirmed in a notification issued by the state’s law department on Sunday, marking a new chapter in the state’s legal leadership.

Roy’s appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of Senior Advocate Rajiv Ranjan, who had been serving as the Advocate General since 2020. The resignation was accepted by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, who subsequently approved Roy’s appointment as the state’s chief legal officer, effective immediately and until further orders.

The legal community is closely watching this transition, as Roy steps into a pivotal role that involves representing the state government in legal matters and providing legal advice to the state administration.

In a related development, Bihar’s Advocate General Prashant Kumar Shahi also tendered his resignation on the same day. Shahi, who assumed office in 2023 under the leadership of then Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stepped down following the recent political changes in the state.

The resignation comes after the swearing-in of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samrat Chaudhary as the new Chief Minister of Bihar. It is customary for an incoming government to appoint its own Advocate General, and Shahi’s resignation paves the way for this transition.

The developments in both Jharkhand and Bihar reflect the dynamic nature of legal appointments, often influenced by changes in political leadership. These appointments are crucial as they ensure that the legal systems in both states are aligned with the vision and policies of the current governments.
