69 New Law Officers Appointed to Represent Karnataka Government at High Court

In a significant reshuffle following a change in the leadership of the Congress-led government in Karnataka, the state has announced the appointment of 69 new law officers to represent its interests before the Karnataka High Court. This strategic move comes in the wake of a recent change in administration, marking a new chapter in the state’s legal representation.

Appointment Details and Gender Representation

The appointments, as per official government notifications, include 42 Additional Government Advocates (AGAs) and 27 High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs) designated to serve at the Principal Bench of the Karnataka High Court. Notably, the appointments reflect a commitment to gender diversity, with 16 women appointed as AGAs and 10 women among the HCGPs.

These appointments are set to be effective for a duration of one year or until further directives are issued, according to the notifications. They are governed by Rule 23 of the Karnataka Law Officers (Appointments and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1977, which lays out the regulatory framework for such appointments.

Key Promotions and Appointments

In addition to these appointments, the state has witnessed notable promotions within its legal framework. Advocate BN Jagadeesh has ascended to the role of State Public Prosecutor-I, while Vijayakumar Majage has been appointed as State Public Prosecutor-II. Furthermore, Mohammed Ayub Ali Khan and Rashmi Jadav have taken up positions as Additional State Public Prosecutors, contributing to the robust legal team representing Karnataka.

These developments align with a recent political transition in Karnataka, where DK Shivakumar has been inaugurated as the new Chief Minister, succeeding Siddaramaiah who stepped down on May 28. This power transition is part of a strategic power-sharing arrangement within the Congress-led government, aiming to strengthen governance and administrative efficiency in Karnataka.
