The Calcutta High Court has issued a directive for the immediate arrest of Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel, who is currently facing serious accusations of rape made under the pretext of a marriage promise. The order also includes the seizure of his electronic devices to prevent the distribution of any compromising photographs of the complainant.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya on July 14, highlighted the police’s ongoing efforts to locate Porel and another accused individual, both of whom remain unapprehended. The court emphasized the urgency of the situation by instructing law enforcement to continue their search and secure the electronic devices involved.
Justice Bhattacharyya’s order specifically stated, “Concerned police authorities are directed to continue with their endeavour to apprehend respondent nos. 6 & 7 and to make seizure of devices so obnoxious data stored therein shall not be further disseminated.” The police have been commanded to submit a detailed report to the court by August 14, outlining the measures undertaken to fulfill this directive.
The case against Porel was filed last month at the Mogra police station. The complainant alleges that Porel engaged in a sexual relationship with her under false pretenses, promising marriage, while also recording intimate moments. She further claims that Porel has been involved with multiple women and accuses him of both physical and mental abuse, including coerced violent sexual acts.
The legal proceedings have seen the involvement of various advocates. The complainant is represented by Ranadev Sengupta, Akash Ganguly, and Amaan Deep Gupta. On behalf of the state, Suryaneel Das, Souvik Nandy, and Dyutimoy Paul have been involved in the case.
