The Arbitration and Conciliation Centre (Domestic and International) in Bengaluru, operating under the Karnataka High Court, has entered into a collaborative Internship Programme with Alliance University. This strategic partnership aims to enhance educational cooperation, research initiatives, and skill development within the realm of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), particularly focusing on arbitration and conciliation techniques.
The formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding took place with Director Dinesh Hegde, a District Judge, representing the Arbitration and Conciliation Centre, and Registrar Dr. Matam Viswanathaiah representing Alliance University. This collaboration is designed to offer law students vital practical experience in arbitration through various internship opportunities, workshops, faculty development programs, and institutional visits, thereby fostering experiential learning in ADR.
The programme outlines several areas of cooperation, including student internships, workshops on both domestic and international arbitration, faculty development initiatives, visits to the Arbitration and Conciliation Centre, and academic interactions between students and experts. The event was attended by key figures such as Surekha Shetty, Registrar General of Alliance University, Vignesh Kumar, Deputy Director of the Arbitration and Conciliation Centre, Dr. V. Shyam Kishore, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs) and Dean at Alliance School of Law, among others.
During the event, representatives from both institutions stressed the importance of bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application in dispute resolution mechanisms, thus preparing students for the growing opportunities in arbitration and conciliation practices. They emphasized the increasing relevance and future prospects of ADR, especially arbitration, in the dynamic legal and commercial sectors.
With a rising preference for effective, economical, and confidential dispute resolution methods, arbitration is rapidly becoming a significant area of legal practice at both national and international levels. The representatives further highlighted that such collaborations between academia and industry are crucial in raising awareness, building professional expertise among students, and nurturing a strong ADR culture in India. This initiative is anticipated to significantly bolster the arbitration ecosystem and expand the ADR landscape in the country.
