The Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) has announced the 4th International Conference themed “ADR as a Catalyst for Strengthening the India–UK Economic Partnership.” This event is set to take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, in London, focusing on “Arbitrating Indo-UK Commercial Disputes.” This year’s conference is especially noteworthy due to the recent India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is anticipated to significantly boost trade and investment between the two nations.
As the economic ties between India and the United Kingdom continue to deepen, the role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms becomes increasingly crucial. ADR is essential for enhancing investor confidence, ensuring contractual reliability, facilitating legal and professional exchange, and establishing a consistent framework for cross-border commercial interactions.
Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India, will inaugurate the conference. The opening session will feature keynote speeches from prominent figures including Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of Law and Justice of India, and The Rt. Hon. Sir Geoffrey Vos, Master of the Rolls and Head of Civil Justice of England & Wales. Special addresses will be delivered by Periasamy Kumaran, High Commissioner of India (Designate) to the UK, and Brett Dixon, Vice-President of the Law Society of England & Wales.
The event will be organized by Dr. NG Khaitan, Senior Partner at Khaitan & Co and President of ICA, along with Arun Chawla, Director General of ICA. The conference is expected to attract distinguished members of the judiciary, leading arbitration experts, policymakers, academics, and industry leaders from both India and the UK.
The conference aims to provide a vibrant platform for high-level discussions on current issues in international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution. Through this initiative, the ICA intends to enhance institutional collaboration, promote legal and academic interaction, and contribute to the development of international arbitration practices between India and the United Kingdom.
